Intravascular Ultrasound Speckle Statistics

چکیده
A ridge based speckles segmentation algorithm is proposed for segmenting speckle images and its application in IVUS (intrascular ultrasound) images is studied. An IVUS image may be treated as a height map and its ridges correspond to the center of the speckles. Author proposed a ridge detection algorithm based on the calculation of the maximum ascent direction. The algorithm’s running time is linear to the AOI (area of interest). It is robust with changes of the AOI and insensitive to changes of the image brightness and contrast. The output the algorithm is a set of ridge pixels assembled in a natural hierarchy order. A group of characteristic parameters may be evaluated for the detected ridge. The parameters vary distinctly with different texture of the ultrasound speckles. This method may aid further segmentation of the IVUS image.

Edge-Preserved Smoothing Method with Special Reference to Intravascular Ultrasound Image Using Anisotropic Diffusion Filter Controlled by Weighted Separability Measure
This paper describes a novel edge-preserved smoothing method specialized for intravascular ultrasound (IVUS) image. In the proposed method, the processing of an anisotropic diffusion filter is controlled by the weighted separability of an IVUS image. The present method not only reduces a speckle noise but also enhances an edge on an IVUS image. The effectiveness of the proposed method is verifi...
متن کاملSpeckle Noise Reduction and Edge-Enhancement of Coronary Plaque Tissue in Intravascular Ultrasound Image by Using Anisotropic Diffusion Filter
This paper describes a novel edge-preserved smoothing method with special consideration to an intravascular ultrasound (IVUS) image. An IVUS image, which is commonly used for a diagnosis of acute coronary syndromes (ACS), is very grainy due to heavy speckle noise. The speckle noise prevents not only the medical doctors’ interpretation of the IVUS image, but also the processing of medical images...
متن کاملDiscrimination of intravascular lumen and dissections in single intravascular ultrasound images using subtraction, conventional averaging and saline flush.
With current 30-MHz intravascular ultrasound systems, flowing blood may cause considerable backscatter which in real-time images is characterized by dynamic speckle. However, in a single intravascular ultrasound image (still-frame) the discrimination between arterial lumen and wall may be difficult due to the frozen intraluminal speckle, particularly in the presence of dissections. We compared ...
متن کاملTemperature Mapping Using Ultrasound Digital Images
Introduction: The success of hyperthermia depends on the accuracy of the temperature monitoring in the tumor and the surrounding normal tissue. In this study, the temperature changes were determined by computing the speckle displacement in the ultrasound digital images. Speckle tracking algorithm was used to compute the displacement. Materials and Methods: The experiment was perf...
متن کاملCoronary Plaque Boundary Enhancement in IVUS Image by Using a Modified Perona-Malik Diffusion Filter
We propose a modified Perona-Malik diffusion (PMD) filter to enhance a coronary plaque boundary by considering the conditions peculiar to an intravascular ultrasound (IVUS) image. The IVUS image is commonly used for a diagnosis of acute coronary syndrome (ACS). The IVUS image is however very grainy due to heavy speckle noise. When the normal PMD filter is applied for speckle noise reduction in ...
